Lieutenant-Colonel Hassan Fagaga has left his casern in Bamako in November to form a "rebellion" in the mountains of the Tinzaouaten Circle,in the 8th region, north of Mali. He is leading around 200 men, parted in three camps over the area.

He is not calling for desertion, nor is he calling for ex fighters to join him. He has taken this step, hoping to bring the government to the negotiation table, to address all of the problems the Tuareg community is facing, and not only it?s military part. Since 2002 the Tuareg community of the area of Kidal has been trying to bring their distress to the attention of the state, without success.
